2020 Balenciaga
Transmission Project
Within this project, our class took a visit to the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa in Bilbao where we saw his iconic designs from decades ago, which revolutionised the fashion world.

Our task was to take inspiration from at least one element, shape or technique used by Cristóbal back in the day and compliment that with our own design language. My main inspiration shape-wise was the Balloon Jacket from the 50s, coupled by the usage of high-end wool fabrics and the all black silhouette.

I chose to contrast the couture and high-end aspect of his work by mixing it with sportswear. I am really into wearable and comfortable clothing and because Cristóbal's designs were couture only, I associate that with something you would be afraid to wear nowadays. Therefore, besides the expensive wool, I also used ripstop and nylon to create my outfit. This created a desired contrast between two totally different worlds, couture and sportswear. In addition to that, I also used specific design elements that contrast each other, such as a hidden button plaque and cargo pockets.
